Meghan Markle and Prince Harry seem to have a fairytale romance. With the birth of their first child, the couple seems over-the-moon in love. Many fans are wondering how exactly Meghan managed to snag her prince. What was Meghan’s dating life like before she met Harry? We have all the answers to these questions and more, just for you.
Meghan took her search for Mr. Right very seriously. A source told The Sun, that she followed the advice in the dating self-help book, All the Rules: Time-Tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right, by Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider. “Meghan used to quote The Rules all the time and really put it into practice with a number of her boyfriends,” the source said.
The classic dating book was published over 20 years ago and includes advice like, make yourself easy to be with, but hard to get; take care of yourself and be feminine; and don’t be a hunter, be a responder.
The authors of the book even commented on Meghan’s use of their suggestions. They said: “Our book obviously made an impression on the actress, because she embodies everything we say about being princess-like and feminine, classy, discrete and confident.”
Now that we know how Meghan snagged her boyfriends, let’s take a look at who she dated, before the prince. The first relationship that we know about for Meghan is her ex-husband: producer Trevor Engelson. The couple dated six years, before tying the knot in September 2011 in an extravagant beach-side wedding at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The celebrations lasted for days, with over 100 guests dancing and partying well into the night.
However, only two years later, Meghan and Trevor filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The first year of their marriage was spent with Meghan traveling back and forth between Toronto, where Suits was being filmed, and their home in Los Angeles.
A source told Women’s Day, as reported by The Sun, that the distance was hard on the relationship. “Meghan landed her role in Suits just a few months before they married,” the source explained. “And despite being together for six years before getting hitched, things started to fall apart not long after the wedding. They really battled with long distances. Trevor was based in LA, while Meghan was in Toronto, a five-hour flight away.
It was a very difficult was to start married life.”Since their divorce, Meghan isn’t the only one that’s moved on. Only a few days after the birth of Baby Archie, Meghan’s first child with Harry, Trevor married Tracey Kurland, a nutritionist and heiress he’s been dating since 2017.
After her divorce, Meghan supposedly dated Irish pro golfer, Rory McIlroy, although the relationship was never officially confirmed. They were seen together several times throughout 2014, enjoying dinner dates in New York City and Dublin. Rumors that they were in a relationship became even stronger after the pair released a flirty video of them doing the ice bucket challenge together.
The last relationship Meghan was in before Harry, was with celebrity chef Cory Vitiello. They met when Meghan visited The Harbord Room, one of the many upscale restaurants owned by Cory. The couple were together two years and shared a townhouse in Toronto. Markle even published a write-up of the chef’s career on her now-defunct lifestyle blog The Tig.
