The Ellen DeGeneres Show dropped the very surprising and unexpected news Wednesday that royal fans would have a chance to see Meghan Markle sitting on the sound stage at host Ellen DeGeneres’studio on Thursday.
A short clip was posted to the show’s Twitter account, previewing some of the things the pair chatted about during Meghan’s visit.
This is Meghan’s first talk show appearance since she and Prince Harry sat down with Oprah in the spring.
The last time Meghan did a one-on-one with an interviewer, it was in March 2021 when she sat down with Oprah, prior to Prince Harry joining her.
That bombshell interview sent shockwaves through the UK after the controversial couple accused members of the royal family of racism and ignoring their repeated pleas for support, among other claims.
It doesn’t look as if Ellen is going to ask any hard-hitting questions during Thursday’s interview.
Although the royals likely are breathing a sigh of relief about that, we’re sure many who are curious about exactly what has been going on behind the scenes since Harry and Meghan’s initial interview are going to be sorely disappointed. We know we are!
The interview is instead likely going to focus on Meghan’s early days as an actress.
In the short clip, Ellen asks Meghan about the last time she was on the lot that her show is filmed on.
“Oh my gosh, completely! I would park at gate three and then I would scoot on over, and what was so nice is the security guards would always say, ‘Break a leg, we hope you get it!'” Meghan recalled, adding that her drive on Wednesday was very different.
Yeah, we have a hunch nobody told the Duchess of Sussex to break a leg when she arrived at the lot this time around.
It’s highly unlikely that the duchess has to worry about car trouble anymore, but it seems that Meghan’s former ride used to give her quite a bit of hassle when she would pull into the lot.
“I had this very, very old Ford Explorer Sport, and at a certain point the key stopped working on the driver’s side, so you couldn’t get yourself in through the door,” Meghan recalled.
So after auditions, I would park at the back of the parking lot and I would open the trunk and climb in and then pull it shut behind me and crawl over all my seats to get out. That’s how I would come to and fro.”
We’re sure it was quite embarrassing, but we’re loving the visual! We have to wonder if Meghan and Ellen covered any of the more serious topics currently facing the duchess.
The talk show host is known for delving into the lighter and funnier side of life with her guests, so we’re unlikely to get an update on many of the more serious issues that the duchess is grappling with right now.
That might very well be for the best. Considering Meghan is dealing with an ongoing legal battle over a private letter her father leaked to the press, criticism over her involvement in US politics, and the rift between her husband and the rest of the royal family, reminiscing about the “good old days” may be just what the mother of two needs these days.
